Thirty U.S. water and waste water utilities will invest $23 billion per year for the next ten years in operations, maintenance and infrastructure, according to a recent report by the Water Research Foundation and Water Environment Research Foundation.
Forty percent of that investment—$9.2 billion annually—will be invested in capital infrastructure improvements.
The report estimates that $1 million in spending by a utility supports 16 jobs. Overall, the ten-year spending plan will support 289,000 jobs and generate $524 billion in revenue.
