Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), chair of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, is urging her colleagues to enact a long-term, sustainable plan for transportation funding in the post-election session of Congress.
In a letter to House Ways & Means Committee leaders, Senator Boxer said she has identified a series of funding options and that waiting until the expiration of the current extension to shore up the Highway Trust Fund next May could have drastic economic consequences.
“There are many reasonable ways to continue a self-funded transportation program,” she wrote. “We cannot afford to wait for action until the deadline which falls at the beginning of the critical summer construction season, or to kick the can down the road any longer.”
ACEC continues to work with Sen. Boxer and other congressional leaders for action on long-term transportation investment.
