The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced last week that it is extending the public comment period on its carbon emissions rule by 45 days to December 1, 2014. The extension is a response to a request by a majority of senators.
The rule would cut carbon emissions from power plants by 30 percent from 2005 levels by 2030. Each state would have separate standard, based upon regional energy mixes and forecasts for what each state can do to adopt cleaner sources of electricity.
The agency is scheduled to issue a final rule by its original deadline of June 2015.
