The Environmental Protection Agency will move forward with its implementation of a new rule that clarifies which streams and waterways fall under the protection of the Clean Water Act, said Administrator Gina McCarthy, despite the House of Representatives passing a bill last week to block the effort.

McCarthy said that due to long-standing drought conditions in the West and the impacts of climate change, EPA is trying to establish regulatory certainty regarding the availability of drinking water.

House Republican leaders say the new rule is regulatory overreach that will have dire economic consequences.

ACEC continues to seek member input on the proposed rule. Click here for more information from EPA. If you have not already done so, please submit your input on the proposal to ACEC Director of Environment & Energy Programs Keith Pemrick by October 1, 2014.
