Although current funding for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) extends through September 2015, DOT Secretary Anthony Foxx this week urged Congress to begin working on renewing—and expanding—the spending package.

"Even with all the recent focuson on our Highway Trust Fund, we haven't forgotten that the FAA is still operating at historically low funding levels," Foxx said.

Foxx wants to increase funding for the NextGen airplane navigation system, which will help increase capacity in the system. The agency's budget for NextGen was reduced by about $200 million in 2013.
