The National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded $17 million in grants to 50 researchers at 16 institutions to investigate ways to improve infrastructure resilience.
Over the next three years, the researchers will study the interdepency of various infrastructures (natural gas and electricity systems, power and communication networks, and healthcare and cyber infrastructure) and how to prevent the cascading failures that were seen in the wake of weather events such as Superstorm Sandy in 2012.
